Housing for the Homeless

Here’s a couple of links to a story on a few Emily Carr University students who designed some great little SRO shelters that could be used to help homeless people begin their way back. I had a hand in developing Mike Gidora Place for the Victoria Cool Aid Society some 8 or so years ago, and the philosophy with that apartment complex was to build small 300-350 sq ft fully contained apartments for people to rent with their income assistance housing stipend. That building worked really well, but the cost of land in downtown Victoria made it a very risky project, no less these days. These portables look great and I’m sure beat the hell out of sleeping in some urine soaked doorway. Anyway, congratulations to the students for spending the time thinking about this issue.
