3D Virtual mapping

So where’s the future of mapping?
Still content with 2 dimensional maps? If you read my last post you’ll know that at Clover Point we added another coordinate to our asset mapping technology…we added time. This element enables a predictive analysis component to the mapping of your assets and changes the 2 D to 2 D plus. And that’s cool. BUT what about 3D mapping?

What about taking the next leap and creating digital virtual worlds that are geospatially synced to the “real” world. IE., where every tree, every road, every building is geospatially correct in duplicating the “real” world and hence creating a kind of parauniverse for urban planners. We could use the tag line…take a walk through our maps; but we’ve used “The Power of the Visual” because it’s so incredibly powerful. :-D
Our 3D Master Planning Module is taking the engineering, urban planning, property development and municipal space by storm.
The ability to create a virtual world of your vision for a community or a building and have your stakeholders walk through that space before one litre of soil is turned has such incredible power to influence the decision making process that it can save enormous amounts of money and time in the approvals process. The difference between our Master Planning Tool 3D module and current 3D architectural rendering systems is that with our tool you can create a whole community of 800 buildings and run the demonstration off a laptop. Stakeholders can become immersed in the world and wander about getting a feel for the context of the buildings and can look out the window of a proposed building to check the view or wander the halls looking at workflow paterns.
This 3D module is also a component of our Maser Planning Tool, which means that each building can be dynamically connected to a variety of databases and so by clicking on the building you can bring up identifying or engineering information on that structure…you could even have live cam views of the “real world” building in the virtual world and so wander the real world within the virtual world. OK, I’m dizzy….This is orienting a Second Life type world to the business community.
There are lots of implications to this process and I’ve added a video clip below to give you a flavour of what we’re up to. It’s pretty exciting stuff and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at cholt@cloverpoint.com.
Have fun out there and in there…..
